Brandston
Send Us A Signal (The Militia Group)

By: Mike SOS

Brandston is a veteran act on the indie circuit, as this is the Cleveland quartet's seventh release. Send Us A Signal showcases a rock band whose DIY experiences and self-learned know-how leads a diverse musical attack. Tracks like the subtle groove of "Drawing a Line in the Sand" find the band well-versed in taking the mood down a notch without sacrificing intensity, while "Throwing Rocks Tonight" presents an act that can successfully string a smart, straight ahead rock song together. Brandston's method of blending big guitars and sweeping melodies with the kind of Weezer-esque pop sensibilities inside of a rock mainframe makes the kind of mix that jumps from the atmospheric on "Mercy Medical" to the swaying punk rock swagger on "Blindspot" with both precision and ease. Versatile and mature, Brandston should appeal to those that dig bands like Foo Fighters, Hum, and Dashboard Confessional.
