Charlotte Martin On Your Shore (RCA Records) By: Alex Steininger
Melodic, piano-driven pop-rock with a lyrical bite an emotive vocals to further the power of the presentation, Charlotte Martin's On Your Shore is a healthy combination of radio polish and female-driven, angst-tinged pop-rock. Here are thirteen songs, ending with a sorrow-filled cover of The Rolling Stones' "Wild Horses", that bring forth every emotion imaginable, from love to heartbreak, sadness to glee. It's a powerful, gripping record that doesn't beg for your attention, nor does it claim you with flash. It keeps things boiled down to the basics. Good songwriting, powerful lyrics, and intelligent compositions and delivery - making it a late night, dried tears record perfect for watching the rain come down hard in darkness and bang against your windows while you wonder about your life and put things into prospective. And it is in this that the beauty blossoms, making it one of the richest offerings out there. I'll give it a B.
