My Fate
Happiness Is Fiction (Crash Music Inc.)

By: Jeb Branin

Although I'm not sure I buy into the philosophy espoused by the title of MY FATE's latest opus Happiness is Fiction, I do know that I appreciate what they manage to accomplish with their distinctive musical brew.

MY FATE takes the complex and progressive tones of the recent dark metal wave merges them with the heaviest nu-metal sounds and re-introduces the resulting concoction to the death metal that is at the root of both genres.

The final product is patchy at times, as you might expect, but other times it hits the nail on the head and drives that nail right into your skull. The tray card art for the CD has the image of a flower blossom spotted with blood; I'd say that image captures the very essence of MY FATE's sound.
