Entombed Unreal Estate (Three Man) By: Jeb Branin
This CD is the product of a fascinating experiment in avant garde performance expression. It is ENTOMBED recorded live as the soundtrack to a performance by the Swedish Royal Ballet. Someone was thinking so far out of the box when this idea was concocted that the box probably imploded from the external pressure. Unfortunately something is lost in translation. Listening to a dance performance is like reading Moliere... it's rewarding, but ultimately you are getting cheated the full experience. There is certainly plenty reason for ENTOMBED fans to pick this up, not the least of which is the fact they sound about as heavy as I've ever heard them, but their classic death metal and death rock is richly embellished with lots of noisy and experimental intros, bridges, and segues that are obviously done for the sake of the dance. Not being able to see the dance is frustrating and leaves me with the distinct impression I am only getting a part of the story. Fortunately a DVD of the entire performance is in the works and so my curiosity will ultimately be satisfied. Until the release of the DVD consider picking this up as a teaser.
