Clearlake Wonder If The Snow Will Settle (Domino Recording Co.) By: Alex Steininger
Following up their sophomore full-length, Cedars, England's Clearlake deliver Wonder If The Snow Will Settle, a twenty-minute, seven track collection of remixes of previous material and new material. The purpose is to wet fans' whistles for the next album and to give them another take on some of their favorite songs. Except for the classic rock/Brit-pop of "Cinnamon Girl" (a new song), Wonder If The Snow Will Settle finds the English outfit stripping their lush songs down just a bit, making them quirky and left-of-center rather than straight ahead. But, the outcome is still a refreshing take on pop, as the band delivers the delicate ("Don't Lie To Yourself", another new song) alongside the Ben Hillier remix of the title track (originally found on Cedars, a hazy, late-night stroll through dark pop. It's a weird indie-rock hybrid that will leave you guessing, and wanting more. I'll give it a B+.
