The Rocket Summer
Hello, Good Friend (The Militia Group)

By: Alex Steininger

Bubbling, hook-laden, pop-infused emo, The Rocket Summer's Hello, Good Friend is a promising record from a young songwriter who keeps getting better with each release. On his second record for The Militia Group, Bryce Avary, the young man behind The Rocket Summer, proves to be even more of a threat, writing with a stronger sense of pop, ensuring his rock songs, which are ripe with emo flavor, are that much more powerful. The record is well produced, lyrically competent, and hooky as all get out. These are sugary, made-for-radio songs that still have bite. I'll give it a B.
