 Indie-rockers that know their way around a pop song, Volcano, I'm Still Excited!'s self-titled full-length is a refreshing treat from the noise and over saturation of guitar. Not to say they don't have guitar, or use it, because they do (and they write good rock songs). But, with additional instrumentation, including a keyboard, they know when to let the guitars thrive and when to let the piano lead the way. They also know when a song needs a good hook to keep it interesting. Or when too much sugar rots the core, ensuring that the sixteen tracks on this album are both jagged and beautiful, a well-balanced diet of pop and rock that makes them a rising star in the indie-rock world. I'll give it a B+.
