Fine China
The Jaws of Life (Common Wall Media, LLC)

By: Alex Steininger

After two releases on Tooth & Nail, Fine China have found a new label (Common Wall), while further developing their sound. A glossy, new wave-inspired lush pop sound that is as big on the rocking tunes ("I Can't Fall Asleep" and "My Worst Nightmare") as it is on the softer ones ("Are You On Drugs?", "I'm Sorry For The Hating"). The band is great at creating tight, delicate emotional pop songs and generic, yet catchy rockers, too. Suffice to say, they sound more comfortable during the softer numbers, where their true talents shine, but when they rock out they desperately feel as if they're trying to write a "hit". I'll give this a B-.
