Bucket of Monkey
NE146D9 (Self Released)

By: Alex Steininger

Bucket of Monkey is a pop-punk band that throws some ska into the mix. Hailing from Fairfox, VA, these guys tackle tough teen topics like dealing with preps, love, and not wanting to change your clothes because you love the ones you are wearing.

Their first album, NE146D9, is a cassette packed with seven powerful tunes. Side six starts off with "Scratch 'n' Sniff Girl." It's a fast paced trip through the minds of these guys. Nice, melodic punk rock about being in love with a girl for the way she smells. "My mad addiction can't be quenched, you must be sent by god," shouts the lead singer and they drive through their powerful tune. The only bad thing about this song are the backing vocals. More fun lovin' punk tunes like "Boyscout" and "Bum Moi" are served up on side six. But the highlight of side six is the ska-tinted track about wanting to kick some preps, because after all it would be "Big Fun." We know these guys take on high school life. Side nine brings us three more tracks, the highlight being the punk track with a slight ska backing, "Dirty Pants (original)."

Although this cassette sounds very rough, and the band needs to grow more as a band, the overall sound of Bucket of Monkey is GREAT! These guys have a bright future. They can tackle serious issues, as well as comedy, and anything else they want! Their teens, and life is jungle! Every thought that runs through their minds is translated in their music, and spit out for the listeners enjoyment. E-mail the band and try and pick up a copy of this album. You'll enjoy it. I'll give this album a B.
