Superhighway Carfire
Defective Immediately (Infernal Racket Records)

By: Jeb Branin

This is noise rock with very little of the far too common (and bland) esoteric introspection that is rampant in the scene. Instead this is the musical equivalent of a kick in the pants. It is upbeat, driving, and sassy. And the noise? There is plenty of it. An-electric-guitar-thrown-into-a-scrap-metal-heap with a beat. Fuzzed out vox stumble and trip across the top of it all with enough esoteric lyricism to keep you guessing. If you don't put some meaning into it, who will? Post-modernism played in a bar. Anti-punk punk with little regard for the safety of the listener. There are only six songs on this disc which is too bad because I would be intrigued to see where a full length release would take this band. How much ground could they cover? How much havoc could they wreak? Plenty, I'm sure. AmRep fans take note but be warned this is upbeat, snotty and a lot of fun.
