Shango
Metal Mafia (Back Room Records)

By: Geoff Melton

If the long-rumored metal resurgence comes to fruition, expect to find this Brooklyn-based power trio near the front of the pack. Formed in 1991 by lead vocalist/bassist Tony Incigeri (a man with already huge metal credentials as co-founder and co-owner of Crazed Management, making him partly responsible for helping launch careers for the likes of Metallica and Anthrax) Shango lays out eleven tracks of raw, crunchy metal reminiscent of a more melodic Motorhead on this debut disc. Combining musical chops that stand head and shoulders above most bands out there, plenty of hooks and lyrics that metalheads crave (look no further than "Hand and Crotch", "Balls" or"Just Play the F***in' Song") Shango have what it takes to make it happen.
