Christian Death
The Best of Rozz Williams (Cleopatra Records)

By: DJ Dysdynia

On April 1, 1998, the father of the Goth, Rozz Williams made the decision to take his own life. In memorium, almost one year after his passing, Cleopatra records is presenting The Best of Rozz Williams. This release contains tracks from several projects worked on by Rozz, including his remixed Christian Death album Lost Souls. The Best of Rozz Williams begins with "Spiritual Camp," a remixed version by Wayne Hussey of Mission UK. This version fuses Christian Death melody with current electronic vices, and reconstructed vocals making a stratchy post punk Goth song into a clear syncopated cut. Also included is a demo version of "Romeo's Distress" which adds to the collective effect of the CD, but the track is poorly produced, distorted, and muddled. "Figurative Theatre," "Sleepwalk," and "Lost Minds" are present in their original form with Eva O providing the additional vocals. For a true Christian Death fan, The Best of Rozz Williams is a excellent CD to outline the marks in a expansive career of what was an incredibly advanced and creative man.
