Jad Fair and Jason Willet
Enjoyable Songs (Alternative Tentacles)

By: Jeb Branin

Fans of HALF JAPANESE (both of you) take note. Jad Fair is back and even more off the wall than ever. In this teaming with Jason Willet Fair takes his quirky anti-pop sensibilities and merges it with what sounds suspiciously like free form jazz rock in the vein of some of Zappa's stuff sans the virtuosity. The end result is an album of 35 musical gems that demand more concentration from the listener than most people are willing to give. Those who are willing, or at least have the good sense to try, are going to be enthralled by an artist who gives you the unexpected as a rule and for whom the bizarre is the norm. It is also worth noting that anyone with a preoccupation with vampires will find many lyrics of interest on this disc.
