Velvet Acid Christ
Fun with Knives (Metropolis Records)

By: DJ Dysdynia

Velvet Acid Christ is on it again, after 3 full length successes. Following and exceeding the lead of Church of Acid, calling ov the Dead and Neuralblastoma, is the latest release on Metropolis Records, Fun with Knives. This new completed project carries samples and hard beats comparable to older VAC, but Bryan Erickson has polished the rougher edges. Songs such as "Decypher," "The Dark Inside of Me," and "Speedball OD" contain awesome keyboard orchestration, incredible power, and deep disturbing vocals that are all woven together in songs that are tight. Others songs still hold the deviant lyrical content but are laced with provocative samples, such as "Fun with Drugs" contains samples from the cult hit Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. "There is no God," and "Caught" demonstrate a sweet harshness and painful syncopation that are hard to express emotionally, and still keep a hard edge, but VAC does it with precision and grace. As a guest appearance, Anna, from companion industrial band, Luxt, also has a piece in performing the slow seductive track,"Slut." In conjuction, with the new Fun with Knives album, there are a few more related releases. Fun with Razors, which is a limited edition box set with a set of your very own rusty razors, and a CD containing remixes available nowhere else. Also being released is, Fun with Drugs, the import version of the "Decypher" single. Check out the other releases but don't forget Fun with Knives. It is incomparable in beat, innovation, and abrasive content, beyond that, it's fully danceable.
