Hate Eternal
Conquering The Throne (Wicked World)

By: Jeb Branin

With cover art that looks like Al Pacino's living mural in "The Devil's Advocate" and music that sounds like MORBID ANGEL on overdrive, the members of HATE ETERNAL have got all the right cards to catapult themselves into the foreground of the death metal scene on the strength of this one album alone. Highly complex and relentlessly severe, fans of extreme metal will be lined up to get mowed down by HATE ETERNAL. With both the appeal and quality of death metal waning it is albums like this that gives one hope for the future of the genre. HATE ETERNAL have all the elements needed for a band of consequence in the death scene but at the same time they don't come across as trite or redundant. They are incredibly deft with their instruments but at the same time they haven't forgotten how important rawness and primitivism are to the overall impact of death metal. This is the best death metal album of the year.
