A Hard Night's Day (Norton Records)

By: Alex Steininger

A Hard Night's Day unleashes 1973 studio demos that have never been officially released. Bootleggers and collectors, I'm sure, have had these songs for years. Mastered with nice packaging and extensive liner notes, Norton Records delivers so much more than any bootlegger ever could. That's just one reason to get this album. The classic garage-rock-punk band The Dolls, a band that spawned generations to come of rock 'n' rollers, has never sounded better. Wild, uncontrollable, and as rock as ever, The Dolls are not just a band, they're an institution. This is rock 'n' roll. So many bands owe so much to The Dolls. To deny them their place in rock 'n' roll history is crazy. Check out the real thing before you forget what real rock 'n' roll is all about. I'll give it an A+.
