Shank
Two Different Shank 7"'s (Enslaved / Retribution Records)

By: Jeb Branin

SHANK / MINUTE MANIFESTO
Split 7"

Seven inches of plastic exploding like a supernova right in my living room. Glasgow's SHANK team up with MINUTE MANIFESTO for 10 minutes of hyper-shred hardcore. Both bands play at a fevered pace throughout the record only slowing down for a few scant seconds to take in the carnage they have wrought before violently speeding off again. For fans of full throttle thrash it just doesn't get much more satisfying than this. This 7" has been out awhile so forgive me for being late on the uptake but I couldn't resist giving this record the props it deserves! My only complaint is Shanks seeming phobia of little kids. One can only hope it is somewhat tongue in cheek...

SHANK / SCALPLOCK
Split 7"

With SCALPLOCK's just released CD on Sound Pollution Records and SHANK's upcoming disc on Slap A Ham I think it is safe to say (albeit a bit cheesy to say) that these two bands are significant "up and comers" in the extreme hardcore scene. If hardcore has demonstrated anything over the years it is that it needs an influx of powerful and ferocious bands to keep things from getting stale... no slight to the mainstays of the scene but the average hardcore fan has an attention span of about 20 seconds and if they don't hear new and raging bands they turn into jaded old farts who sit around bitchin' about how great it was "back in the day". Both these bands take the radically extreme milestones achieved in hardcore during the last ten years and push it even further with explosive outbursts of disharmonic mayhem. No wonder they don't like the phrase "power violence"... it is too tame to describe them...
