 Unwound's Leaves Turn Inside You is a swan song for indie rock, possessing oft-distant vocals that hide behind the layers of guitar and bass, backed by the solid time of the drums, but still manage to speak to you and make you listen. The album's jittery feel pushes the songs past the standard indie rock envelope, allowing the songs more room and more freedom, making them near-landmark tracks that pave the way for indie rock to come. Beautiful and vaguely lush, Unwound delivers a pop masterpiece that isn't really pop, nor is it anything else. It is a charming, casual album that jumps around and travels while staying in one very diverse spot. I'll give it an A+.
