Martial Arts Weekend (Absolutely Kosher)

 The Extra Glenn's Martial Arts Weekend is a bouncy, good time indie pop record, created by two musicians (John Darnielle and Franklin Bruno) who seem to be having a blast writing care-free, entertaining songs. The one thing I don't like about this album is Darnielle's lead vocals. They're too drunken-campfire-sing-along for me to really take this project seriously. Despite that, the lyrics and the music are simple and enjoyable, and the overall flow of the record is great. This is a complete collection of well-rounded, well-written songs that may not be the most serious songs ever written, but if the vocalist would take himself a bit more serious, the songs may come across a bit more mature. Though, for the fun time vibe they seem to be going for, they hit it right on the mark. I'll give this a B-.
