Tijuana Crime Scene
Change of Venue (Arise Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Beautiful, but rocking, Tijuana Crime Scene's Change of Venue EP blends a piano ballad with some loud, combustible rock, as well as some juicy pop hooks and slower, more relaxed numbers. From the mid-tempo rock of "Bad Idea," flushed out with an organ while the band delivers hook after hook in a sing-along environment to jangly pop of "Summer of '87" and the sensitive "Head of Mine," Tijuana Crime Scene are a sure fire treat for fans of music. The highlight of the album is "Forever Leaving," a piano ballad that showcases the band's ability to really grab you with the lyrics and sparse melody, as well as their penchant for writing great hooks (usually hidden behind some louder guitars). This is a masterpiece in the making, making your mouth water for a full-length. I'll give it an A.
