Split Habit
Biting My Lip (Split Habit)

By: Greta Salpeter

Think of everything that is great about Smoking Popes, Weezer, and The Beatles. Roll it up and smoke it, and chase it with a hint NOFX. You have just arrived in the hazy state of Split Habit. They are a power pop-punk trio hailing from Chicago, armed with an amazingly tight and original sound, three separate personalities and an energetic live show. Their music is honest with a nostalgic sound that is perfectly hinted with traces of simmering edge and emo texture all stitched together. They say that, "If you want to be happy, you'll listen."...and that couldn't be more true.

The paramount theme to their music is definitely an up beat, summery, sound, that is seamlessly mended with their raw talent. Their current solid line up consists of Chris Michaels on drums, Travis Brown on bass and lead vocals, and Frankie Cacciato on guitar. After the departure of founding member Johnny Smoke, Drew and Simon from Short Arm Trick filled in admirably, while Chris and Travis rocked on. After holding many auditions, Frankie called and set up an audition time with Travis. Travis was impressed with the acoustic tryout, but Frankie still had to pass the test of jammin' electrically with Chris. He soon filled John's shoes and now gives Split Habit a fuller sound. Every one in the band has bad habits that they sometimes won't admit to, so Chris and Travis were inspired to come up with the name Split Habit. Together, they create some of the most dynamic and catchy numbers to be burned onto a CD in ages. Having been around for about four years, they have had 3 releases, Rockstar 101, E to the P, and their latest, and most unsurpassed, Biting My Lip.

The guys in Split Habit definitely exhibit the qualities needed for a band to last. They show love to their fans, release ground breaking music on a continual basis, and put on an amazing show. For them, the best thing about being musicians is that, "You get to create something that's truly only yours." They have done it without a doubt, creating one of the most unique, greatest, bands the Midwest has ever seen.
