The Lackloves
Star City Baby (Rainbow Quartz)

By: Alex Steininger

The thing about pop music - good pop music - is it makes you feel good, it makes you think, and it makes you want to sing along. Simply put, it makes you want to do something. It involves you and becomes part of your life while you listen to it. It is not merely background music. The Lackloves' Star City Baby, however, is just that, background music. The songs are melodic and catchy enough; they just don't seem to want to go the extra mile. They're content doing the minimum, and for that reason you soon forget about the record after putting it on. It doesn't try to grab you; it doesn't make any attempts to engage you. It just does its thing and plays in the background. I'll give it a C+.
