63 Crayons
63 Crayons (Happy Happy Birthday To Me Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Lo-fi, muddy 60s pop that both revels and is hindered by the primitive sounds of the recordings, 63 Crayons' self-titled EP still manages to offer up plenty of harmonies, luscious grooves, and warm melodies. They also seem to be holding back, keeping the good stuff inside them while trying to find a way to release its power. The songs are great, the musicians knowledgeable, and the pop sound delightful. They just need more time and practice to really make an impact. And when they do, watch out because you'll be surfing their pop sea with a big smile as you bask in their brand of pop. Until then, this six song EP is stable and promising. It won't blow you away, but it will wet your whistle for things to come. I'll give it a C.
