Simpatico
The Boy Is Mine (Gifted Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Except for the acoustic "There Is No End To This Day", Australia's Simpatico deliver a less-than-stellar performance on The Boy Is Mine. "There Is No End To This Day" is a laid-back floating pop number recalling a summer break from school. The weather absolutely perfect for basking in its beauty while you watch the clouds move above. You sit out in the air and try to point out a rocket ship or a face in the clouds to your friend while you laugh and joke around, having one of the most carefree summers of your lives. Other than this standout track, the record gets bogged down by cheesy drum machines and 80's keyboards, both of which make the record sound like an early demo that could go somewhere given the right engineer and producer - and equipment. On top of that, the singer is off-key to the detriment of the song. I'll give this a D.
