He Was A Woman (Fire Records)

David Hurn's debut full-length, He Was A Woman, is a fine slice of chamber pop meets indie-folk. It is a hushed offering of pitter-pattern drums, light bass, and acoustic guitars at the core, expanded with various instrumentation, including electric guitars, piano, tape loops, and trumpets, to name a few. The result is a quirky, experimental recording of glorious pop tucked inside napping melodies. Hurn's He Was A Woman is a masterpiece brewing, an airy, gentle record that packs a lot in a rather toned down format. I'll give it an A-.
