Subterranean Masquerade
Temporary Psychotic Stage [MCD] (The End Records)

By: Jeb Branin

Although this EP is only two songs, it still lasts more than a quarter of an hour. A strikingly packaged CD, the disc itself is a 3" CD set into a clear plastic 5" CD (it's hard to describe, buy it and see for yourself) giving it instant appeal to collector dork types (that would be me). The band consists of members of NOVEMBER'S DOOM, AGALLOCH, EPOCH OF UNLIGHT, and WINDS. The music is a dramatic realization of haunting goth metal executed with precision and an almost surrealistic bearing; like what you might expect from dark metal musicians asked to create a piece of performance art. Progressive song writing, strings, and emotive vocals all garnish an entr?e of heavy guitars. Dare I call this neo-dark metal? I just might. Fans of everyone from OPETH to TIAMAT (later era) are going to connect to this.
