As Tall As Lions
Lafcadio (As Tall As Lions)

By: Alex Steininger

On their debut the Long Island-based rock outfit As Tall As Lions deliver a record that is as hard to pigeonhole as it is straight-forward. It is an intriguing mix of post-punk indie-rock fervor, glorious pop compatibility, and even some adult-contemporary leanings to further confuse and complicate the senses. But as weird as it sounds, the outcome is a guitar-driven, beautiful pop-rock record that wouldn't be out of place in a Radiohead fan's CD collection. It has the smarts, the sensibilities, and the style to carry a strong pop heart with a rocking attitude, giving the band the ability to gather a following from radio lovers to the indie purists, to even hardcore, emo, and punk kids, too. I'll give it a B+.
