Jennifer Marks
Jennifer Marks (Bardic Records)

By: Alex Steininger

On her forth record, and first for Bardic Records, New York-based singer-songwriter Jennifer Marks puts a positive spin on the singer-songwriter genre, leaving behind the angst and writing songs from a sunnier disposition, though always the happiest topics, including singing about being behind on the rent and going to your high school reunion and all the rumors that spread. However, no matter what she's singing about, her happy pop-rock and adult alternative blend create a warm, encouraging sing-along collection of songs that make you want to smile and go, "Yeah, being behind on the rent is bad, but at least I have my life and health". It's a record for those that like to think positive, but acknowledge that some things will come up -- you just have to overcome them. And, it's catchy, to boot. I'll give it a B.
