Midnight
7" (Shifty Records)

By: Jeb

Ooooh yeah. This is great. Amazing. If you haven't heard it yet, put it on your "to do" list prioritizing it somewhere slightly below breathing but slightly ahead of eating. In fact, skip your next meal and use the money to order this record. MIDNIGHT somehow takes the bloody raw and most reckless aspects of early 80s extreme metal (think VENOM) and mutates it into a hyper-fast neo-thrash explosion. In the metal scene there is an ongoing race to find a 'death thrash' sound worthy of the past, the present, and the future; and MIDNIGHT have catapulted themselves to the forefront of that contest. In a mere two songs this records builds the perfect bridge between underground metal early 80s style and underground metal early 2000s style. The record is packaged very simply in a "midnight black" sleeve with no cover art, liner notes, or lyrics. But that is okay. I'm pretty sure printed lyrics would only weaken the appeal of this record for me. After all, can there possibly be a lyric worth reading in a song called "Endless Slut"? I don't think so.
