The Sermon
Volume (Alternative Tentacles)

By: Jeb Branin

One thing (amongst many) that has always impressed me about the Alternative Tentacles label is that they almost never sign bands or release albums reminiscent of the Dead Kennedys. To 99% of listeners The Sermon album Volume probably continues that trend, but for some reason this CD really strikes me as heavily DK inspired. A fact that doesn't detract in the slightest from the appeal of the album, I might add.

Also note I said "inspired." This is in no way an imitation or replication of the DKs. To my ears if the Dead Kennedys had played an amalgamation of 90s rawk 'n roll (ala The Supersuckers) and AmRep style noise rock, it would have sounded something like The Sermon. And if that description isn't enough to excite you about this CD, you must be an USHER fan.
