Kemuri
Little Playmate (Roadrunner Records)

By: Jeff Lockwood

Yep. Here's another one of those fun, sugar coated, ska, punk kind of bands. The music industry is starting to become over saturated by bands in this genre of music. The directions that this style of music can go really is limited. Enter Kemuri. Uhh...wait a minute. There is something different here. Yeah. These guys rock, have fun and play their instruments well. That stuff is the same. Ahh...Maybe it is because they are from Japan. Yeah. I think that's it. (Of course, it took me two listens of the cd to realize that only one song was actually sung in Japanese. All of the other songs are in English.)

Well, besides the novelty of being from Japan, Kemuri do justice to this style of music. This five piece outfit knows what they are doing. The songs are catchy and fun. They sing about girls and introspection. The beats are fast and the guitar sound is strong. The horn arrangements aren't the most technical, but they are catchy and fun. In simple terms, if you are not sick of the ska/punk fusion thing forced upon us by the music industry, then definitely give this cd a listen.
