Kung Fu Rick
Kung Fu Rick 7" (EA Records)

By: Jeb Branin

I wasn't familiar with KUNG FU RICK prior to slapping this lil' slab on the turntable consequently I was in no way prepared for the overwhelming blasts of sound that assaulted me. This is totally raging! Power violence flavored hardcore played with no holds barred. Deranged dual style vocals kick and claw out of the tsunami of hardcore noise being laid down. Speed is the bread and butter of the band's sound but they also never hesitate to provide counterpoint by slowing to a crawl. It is akin to being ripped apart by a ravenous pack of wolves contrasted by being slowly ground up between two granite millstones. Both are equally brutal and effective ways to kill (and die). This 7" isn't safe to be consumed by anything less than the most extreme hardcore junkies, and for those of us who fall into that category, this isn't to be missed.
