The Shakers
The Shakers (Self-Released)

By: Gary Pig Gold

These Shakers may have started shaking, as so many did, after buying their first Ramones record, but be advised there's far more than mere gabba-gabba going on here. For The Shakers, in the true spirit of their UK forefathers, filled the ranks with a quartet of terribly able musicians, amongst whom resided a whopping three (count ?em!) singer/songwriters of ample merit. While lead guitarist Tim Gibbons held down the C.Berry end of the equation - his "Sounds Like Summer" even reveals him to be a the parking-lot poet of the band - Rick Andrew and Dave Rave were the resident John and Pauls, composing the bulk of the material (including two absolute shiners in "Till I'm Gone" and "Feelin' Fine") and always carrying them home and back, vocally-speaking, in tried and true Everlys fashion. Had The Shakers shook in London, England as opposed to Hamilton, Canada, we'd no doubt be talking Rockpile here - at least, yet despite their geographical handicap this band produced a more than very worthy legacy of song and dance, twenty examples of which are included herein for the ages. Write Claude today for your fair share.
