Let's Have A Talk With The Dead (Essential Noise/Virgin Music Canada)

By: Gary Pig Gold

Canadians are, well, kinda weird, I'll have you know: one brush with any Kid In The Hall more that proves that. Maybe it's the water, maybe it's all the acid in their rain? beats me! Suffice to say that when three Canadians (Tom Holliston, Ford Pier and Scott Henderson) from three of the once-Great Northland's coolest alterna-bands (NoMeansNo, D.O.A. and Hissanol) get together with a buncha pals to down a few two-fours and - aw, whatdaheck, eh? - make an album, one may expect something quite removed from the usual warmed-over Wilburisms: and Showbiz Giants sure don't, uhh, disappoint. Launching right off their bat with "The First Pygmy In Space", they boldly let fly with a colo(u)rful cast of vampire hookers, late-night TV icons and Lee Hazelwood tributes (!)? oh, and did I mention the song about gingivitis? Howzabout "Wake Up & Roar, Bachelor God"? And d'ya want back-bacon on that grilled cheese, madam? Jeez, my only advice at this point: Save the price of a costly shuttle flight to Toronto and write Virgin Canada instead for your very own copy of this utterly Gore-proof argument against NAFTA. I dare you!
