The Accused Paint It Red 7" (Transparent Records) By: Jeb Branin
Let it be proclaimed far and wide that I am a total ACCUSED nerd. This new posthumous 7" release from the 80s splatter core gods comes in 3 colors of wax. I bought all three. Yep, I may even qualify for dork status, but realize I have an airtight defense for my actions... That defense being that The ACCUSED rule this universe (and a smattering of other universes as well). For the sadly uninitiated this 7" will only hint at the greatness of this band but for the hardcore splatterhead this is a mandatory piece of the ACCUSED puzzle. The 7" is a collection of two never before released live recordings (including their trademark "Martha Splatterhead") and two cover tunes; "Paint It Black" originally by the ROLLING STONES, which I believe appears here for the first time, and "Neat, Neat, Neat" their barnstorming remake of the classic DAMNED tune which originally appeared on a tribute album several years ago. There is a fifth track that is a prank phone call on LSD that is a waste of plastic but is funny nonetheless. The highlight of the record is definitely the DAMNED cover which is a shining example of why this band remains one of my all time favorites. The STONES cover is also good and features Blaine using a slightly more reserved vocal style not unlike his work with THE BLACK NASTY. Both live tunes are raw, soundboard quality ditties but for longtime fans will certainly bring back many memories. There continues to be rumors of The ACCUSED reforming and doing new recordings, if they do you can bet my shouts of jubilation will be heard clear to Seattle.
