Rust Kings
Hey Indiana I Luv Yu! Your WV 1952 (Mudbone)

By: Geoff Melton

With my increasing following of the burgeoning Americana/Roots Rock scene, it was quite a surprise to find what's quickly becoming one of my favorites in that genre right under my nose. Fellow West Virginian Allan Sizemore (aka Rust Kings) has drawn from influences like Neil Young, Steve Earle and Townes Van Zandt to create a stellar collection of largely moody, midtempo rockers and a few ballads that bring to mind the aforementioned influences, yet also manages to set themselves apart. Even more impressive is the strong production values and musicianship, that with the exception of drums on one cut and some backing vocals are handled exclusively by Sizemore. If he can produce a disc this strong on his own, with a little backing the possiblities for the Rust Kings is limitless. Watch for a new disc later this year.
