Solex
Low Kick and Hard Bop (Matador Records)
By: Alex Steininger
AM pop re-visited with a healthy dose of modern electronic-ism, Elisabeth Esselink (aka Solex) creates hip indie-rock dance music for those too cool to actually dance. This is beat-laden, upbeat music for good times, partying, and forgetting about your troubles. There is no seriousness or pretension here, just solid songs that want you to sink into them and allow the music to move you. No whiny lyrics, no emotional bursts of depression, and no self-deprecating, self-loathing moments to make you like the band members. Just free-flowing, dub-esque grooves and poppy, slippery melodies. I'll give this an A.
