New End Original
Thriller (Jade Tree)

By: Cam Lindsay

Fed up with their current situations, Jonah Matranga (Far, onelinedrawing), Norman Arenas (Texas Is The Reason), Scott Winegard (Texas Is The Reason) and Charlie Walker (Chamberlain) felt it was time to do something and formed New End Original. An underground emo-supergroup of sorts, NEO sound impressively like the combination of their former bands. Thriller, their debut is a mess of emotions, exposing their punk roots and adding a certain touch of tenderness. Opening with the powerful single "Lukewarm", the band match the current successful sound of Jimmy Eat World, combining loud rocking guitars with some really catchy melodies. As wonderful as it is, there really isn't anything else on the record similar to it. As the songs go by, the focus seems to be set more on getting feelings out in the open than crafting another perfect pop song. "Hostage" is a dead-serious tale of holding someone captive, complete with dialog between the two parties, and "#1 Defender" is a soft and gentle tale of love. A truly thrilling debut.
