6-Minute Heartstop
6-Minute Heartstop (Rise Records)

By: Alex Steininger

A little to the left of emo, 6-Minute Heartstop manages to invoke memories and speak to your heart without pulling your heartstrings or bragging about how much they wear their hearts on their sleeves. Instead, they get the job done with lo-key, indestructible guitars and meander and sail around the song while the rhythm section sprinkles the tunes with their lightly eerie, breezy drift. The vocals bring it all home, creating an enchanting, relaxing sound that manages to rock out and bring down the house while being very subtle and reserved about it. This is heart stopping rock music that is neither shoegazer nor emo, though manages to bring in aspects of both and have fans of both loving it. This is a new breed of indie that possesses what it takes to do whatever it wants. I'll give it an A-.
