Martina Sorbara
The Cure For Bad Deeds (Nettwerk)

By: Mark A. Lawrence the IV

I find myself drawn to female artists; I think there is something beautifully powerful with their ability to master raw emotions into a piece of music. It could be that I'm prone to crushes, but musically inclined women and Bartenders seem to have an unnatural hold over me. Marina Sorbara has a style and sound that can lay low and soft or reach for an unbridled power. There are moments on The Cure For Bad Deeds that sound like Tori Amos and Paula Cole, but Sorbara truly has a voice of her own, that she sin't afraid to use. The influences of this album include jazz, Blues and even a country-roots sound peeks its head on "The End of The World." Of the great tracks on this CD, "Eggs Over Easy" and "Better Man" has a backing strength that makes you appreciate her ability as a singer and reminds me of the Power punch delivery of Nina Story.
