Nitty Gritty Dirt Band
Will The Circle Be Unbroken Volume III (Capitol Nashville)

By: Alex Steininger

For its third installment, the Nitty Gritty Dirt Band's Will The Circle Be Unbroken Volume III sports a mighty cast to bring to life the series that started in 1972 with volume 1, continued in 1989 with volume 2, and now hits us in 2003 once again. Featuring Tom Petty and Willie Nelson with a duet on "Goodnight Irene", Johnny Cash on "Tears In the Holston River", Emmylou Harris on "I'll Be Faithful To You", and Willie Nelson once again on "Roll In My Sweet Baby's Arms". As well as Taj Mahal, Alison Krauss, and Doc Watson on the title track, "Will the Circle Be Unbroken (Glory, Glory)", the tradition is kept in tact, without a question, as some of country music's finest pay tribute and homage with their contributes to a band that has influenced them. I'll give it a B+.
