Elefant
Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid (Kemado Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Bringing Morrissey-esque vocals and a love for the Cure into a synth-laden, bass-driven indie-pop world works for Elefant on their debut. Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid sways between dark, moody atmospheric melodies and glowing, still timid hooks that casually slide past you, trying not to get noticed, but making enough of a scene to get a few glances. Sunlight Makes Me Paranoid is the type of pop record you put on, appreciate, and then one day listen to it in the right mood, fall in love, and never shake. The shoegazing, paralyzed pop and daydreaming lyrics something that you have grown to count on and appreciate while listening to the record. I'll give it a B.
