Evergreen (Temporary Residence)

 Originally released on Hi-Ball back in 1996 and now re-released by Temporary Residence, Evergreen's self-titled album, in a way, was ahead of its own time. This Fuelled by the DC and garage punk scenes, as well as a love for complex guitar structures and party down rhythms, this quartet features Britt Walford, drummer for seminal post-rockers Slint and a real treat for folks into the post-punk-funk craze. Before The Rapture and Radio 4 were tearing it up on dance floors, James Murphy, half of the DFA production unit and the man behind LCD Soundsystem, was producing, yes, Evergreen. Of course, there are only slight hints here of what he would go on to do, but Evergreen do relish a good dance beat in their music. "Plastic Bag" and "Coyote" each have their own unique styles to dictate dance moves, whether it be something with actual moves or just uncontrollable spastic fits. This reissue is a real forgotten gem that also includes two bonus tracks that were not on the original album.
