Carson Cole and the Hippy Chicks

 It's not likely to imagine a Rock 'n' Roller such as Carson Cole hails from a small town, Brownsfield, near Calgary, but it's true. He'd expanded his horizons having lived in Seattle for a few years and played in a cover band along with his wife. Carson is the mentor behind now popular trio Wide Mouth Mason, though he prefers not to discuss it a lot. He'd decided to record one of his performances for a live cd on New Year's Eve, 2000. The result is called "Naked" and captures Carson and his band The Hippy Chicks in action, in front of an appreciative crowd. They take renditions of rock and blues standards and fit them in long pieces similar to Cream and Hendrix. Everyone stands firmly in his spot not missing a beat in recreating hard to interpret classics. Especially interesting is their version of Dylan's "Blowin' In The Wind", in my opinion the best cover of the song ever. Carson belts it out just like Jack Bruce could have done it back in the 60's, with a great psychedelic touch. A real live gem. Also memorable is the Stones' "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction", even more psychedelic than the original, featuring amazing drumming from Boris T. Blackwood, a follower of Ginger Baker. Some of their own tunes also deserve much attention. A must have for the live collector. I'll give it an A-.
