Railroad Earth The Good Life (Sugar Hill Records) By: Alex Steininger
The Good Life is right. Bluegrass act Railroad Earth's third full-length, The Good Life, finds the band melding their traditional bluegrass sound with both classic and modern folk influences, as songs like "Said What You Mean" and the title track clearly display. And while the rest of the album isn't exactly like those two songs - the band keeps things diverse enough to make each song a fresh new adventure - the album is all Railroad Earth, each song tied together by their mastery of folk and their love of bluegrass. If you like songs that remind you of mid-day, the heat beating down you in the summertime while the wind cools you off and brushes sweat from your forehead, then you'll love Railroad Earth's from-the-earth sound, as fresh as spring time and as mellow and relaxed as a foggy morning. I'll give it a B+.
