Rhapsody
Symphony of Enchanted Lands II - The Dark Secrets (SPV)

By: Jeb Branin

Ugh. This is the epitome of everything I despise in metal. Let me break down just a handful of its liabilities. It is pretentious. It tries (vainly) to be arty. It's melodramatic and tacky. The music takes a back seat to the "drama". It sacrifices heaviness for pomp. It wants to be the musical equivalent of a fantasy novel but is even too hackneyed for that not-so-lofty goal. In fact, if you like fantasy I encourage you to ignore the "metal" RHAPSODY and instead read the excellent Elizabeth Haydon book trilogy called "Rhapsody," which has nothing, absolutely nothing, to do with this lame CD.
