Siege of Hate
Subversive By Nature (Candlelight Records)

By: Jeb Branin

I'm not even sure where to begin with this review. Any praise I can pull out of my hat is not going to do justice to the brilliance of this CD. Brazil's SIEGE OF HATE manages to create the perfect merger of hardcore rooted grind and metal entrenched death-thrash. Each of the 20 tracks on offer flies at the listener with the same velocity as a round shot from a high caliber weapon (they're about as deadly as well). S.O.H. has a raw and unbridled feel yet the band executes everything with precision and deftness. I hate to draw comparisons to R.D.P. (since everyone will undoubtedly link the two bands through of country of origin) but I just can't deny that the Carniceria Tropical album by R.D.P. is an excellent point of reference (this is just a hint more grindcore orientated). Of the hundred or so albums that have crossed my desk for review in the last month or two, Subversive By Nature is easily one of my two or three favorites.
