Faith No More
Album of the Year

"Album of the Year" falls short for a band as talented as Faith No More, but it still beats what radio typically plays. Don't look for the aggression, or even the quality you heard on albums like "Angel Dust" and "King For a Day...Fool For a Lifetime" because it isn't there. With the exception of new guitarist John Hudson on board, the line-up remains the same. That is, Mike Bordin on drums, Roddy Bottum on keyboards, Bill Gould on bass and Mike Patton on vocals. Don't get me wrong, the album is worth the money, but Faith No More has more or less become a side-project for these musicians at this point as opposed to the other way around. With all of the other projects these guys are involved in/with however (and it's a bunch), Faith No More seems to still be the core at the apple of their careers.The album is shorter and the energy is different, but some of the songs are particularly strong. The keyboard-bass relationship, along with Patton's unbelievably talented melody and voice, backed by solid drum playing, distinguishes this album from others - it's Faith No More. Songs like "Stripsearch," "Helpless," "Last Cup of Sorrow" and "She Loves Me Not" immediately seduce the ear. But "Got That Feeling" and "Naked in Front of the Computer" rip shit and tear ass. "Paths of Glory" is cool too, so is "Home Sick Home." I like this one, you will too, go buy it!! *** (Three Stars.)
