Speed Duster
Quick and Painless (Fuse Records)

By: Alex Steininger

Speed Duster is a four piece country-rock band. They blend a heavy dose of country with some good old rock n' roll.

The first track is "Last Stop-Motor City." It starts off with a very country guitar line, and when the vocals enter you will think of Nirvana's "Bleach." Not that it sounds anything like Nirvana, but the vocals sound similar to Kurt's on "Bleach." But then the song slows down and the vocals sound nothing like them, but when the song speeds up you can hear the likeness. The next track is "Rapid Fire." This song starts off more rock than country, but the country touch is there. The CD spins on, and "Flat Top," is the next song. A great rock enter, and the song maintains itself for around a minute, and then the country touch comes into play here. Two tracks roll on until we come to "Blame it on the Whiskey." Imagine pop-rock hitting country. That what this song is. You can't squeeze a more country beginning into track seven, "Embers & Summer Hay." This song even has a touch of heavy metal in the guitar. Track eight, "Capacitors," is a very mellow tune. Track nine picks up the pace again, with another country-rock hit! There are three more tracks on the CD, to make a grand total of twelve.

This CD would be a great album for any country-rocker fans. For me, it just wasn't what I am into. I am very open minded to music, but country is the one genre I haven't been able to get myself into. I would give this CD a C. They seem to be a talented bunch, and they seem to be enjoying themselves, so you must give credit there! If you enjoy country and rock mixtures, check out this album. You may be pleasantly surprised.
