Rap Music in the Seattle
By: Gene Dexter
For those who have been missing out, the rap music revolution has begun in Seattle. Starting with Conception Records and their distribution deal with Sub Pop Records, the full length vinyl releases have been blowin' up everywhere. Kutfather's "Neva Scared" is blazin' across college radio and soon to be hitting your town. Samson & Swift are also names to definately check out on this compilation.Lost & Found Recordings artist Silver Shadow D has been putting major work in with his dancehall/hip hop single, "Comfi Luv" and "Non Want Test". He has taken Toronto, Chicago, St. Louis, Shrevesport, Anchorage and Kansas city by storm and charting across the country's record pools. He has also produced new tracks for his latest group, 46th Street. Their vinyl isn't even out da box yet and EVERYBODY is stressin' the single "Streets Ain't Made For Everybody". Look out for it.
On The Loose Records has put out KIL, Jasiri Media Group just released their compilation, featuring Source Of Labor and Felicia Loud, and Til Ya Tight Records is doing well with Crooked Path, produced by Funk Daddy himself. The new start up, Paradine Records, is seeing some success with Baby C and the single "Ride With Me".
On the DJ tip, B-Mello puts in that west coast flavor on the Seven Wonders Of The World compilation, produced and arranged by DJ Dexterity in New Jersey. All sides of hip hop are representin' on this project so there's something for everyone.
Lock your doors because Seattle is sneaking up on your hood tonight!
